Bass-baritone Kian Freitas is gaining acclaim for his voice that "soars easily over the orchestra", commanding stage presence, and insightful interpretations in both opera and concert. His repertoire embraces the romantic Italian repertoire (Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Monterone and Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Ferrando in Il trovatore, Schaunard in La bohème, Angelotti in Tosca, Lo zio Bonzo in Madama Butterfly); French opera (Escamillo in Carmen, Le Bailli in Werther); Mozart (the title role of Le nozze di Figaro, Masetto, Leporello, and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte); and 20th-century American works (Olin Blitch in Susannah, Grandpa Moss in The Tender Land). As Grandpa Moss in Opera North's production of The Tender Land, Mr. Freitas was hailed for being "in strong voice" and "dark and menacing". Mr. Freitas also had the honor of creating the role of Stefano in the world premiere of La tempesta, Troy Herion's operatic adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest presented in Italy.
 

During the summer of 2017, Mr. Freitas made his debut with Opera Company of Middlebury in their production of Il trittico, performing the role of Betto di Signa in Gianni Schicchi, and looks forward to his Finger Lakes Opera debut in August 2017 as Angelotti in Tosca. He returns to Opera Company of Middlebury during the autumn of 2017 to perform Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore.
 

Mr. Freitas' performances during the 2016–2017 season include debuts with Opera San José as Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor and with the South Dakota Symphony as Leporello in Don Giovanni. In the 2015–2016 season, Mr. Freitas returned to the Martha Cardona Opera as Le Bailli in Werther, joined Venture Opera to cover Zuniga in their production of Carmen and made his debut with New Amsterdam Opera as Don Fernando in Fidelio.
 

As a concert soloist, Mr. Freitas has sung the bass solo parts in Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah, Siméon in Debussy's L'enfant prodigue with the Metro Chamber Orchestra, arias from Rachmaninoff's Aleko and Borodin's Prince Igor with the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Brahms' Deutsches Requiem in Oyster Bay, NY and the bass aria Quoniam tu solus Sanctus from Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232, at the Vermont Music and Arts Center.
